Giants Collect 7-5 Win Over Cubs
Extra innings were needed to determine a winner at Wrigley Field.

Taffy Wright left his imprint on the 7-5 New York win against the Chicago Cubs. Wright, who is tied for 9th in the NL in extra base hits with 6, went 2 for 4 with 2 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. The win went to Bill Dietrich in relief, making him now 1-0. Joe Page took the loss for Chicago. Fred Sanford was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.

Dick Wakefield provided a timely hit. The New York left fielder delivered a run-scoring triple in the top of the tenth inning to put the Giants on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in the game, but he made it count.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Wright told the New York Chronicle. "It's as simple as that."

With the loss, Chicago drops to 9-7.
