Guardians Use Late Score to Top Red Sox, 2-1
|
The Boston Red Sox got a superb performance from pitcher Tiny Bonham. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Cleveland. The Guardians won the game, 2-1. Bonham threw 9.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The winner was Cleveland reliever Vern Olsen, now 1-0. The loser was Tom Ferrick. Al Gettel picked up his 1st save of the season.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Eddie Waitkus? The Cleveland first baseman had a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put the Guardians on top, 1-0. For the game, Waitkus had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
Waitkus called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
The loss makes Boston 6-13.
