Cubs Lose at Home, 5-2
|
Ed Lopat, who is tied for 2nd in the NL with a 1.00 ERA, had a strong outing for the New York Giants against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 5-2 win. Lopat yielded 2 runs over 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 0, and struck out 0. His record improves to 4-0. New York goes to 12-6 with the win.
With New York leading 3-1 in the top of the eighth, Lopat hit a 2-run single off Chicago hurler Preacher Roe. It was the 8th hit of the season for Lopat and put his team ahead, 5-1.
"Main thing is I want the team to win," Lopat told a reporter after the game. "Just have to go out there, take care of my job, and give my team a chance to win."
