The St. Louis Browns defeated the New York Yankees, 7-4, in AL action at Yankee Stadium. St. Louis pitcher Claude Passeau had a standout performance. The winner was Passeau. He threw 8.0 innings allowing 4 runs. The loser was Earl Johnson. Jack Hallett earned save number 2 this season.
Passeau had a key at-bat in the top of the seventh to put St. Louis in front, 6-4. With the bases loaded, he hit a sacrifice fly off New York pitcher Earl Johnson.
"We had a good game plan," Passeau said, "and we were able to execute it."
After losing, New York is 12-11.
