Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates.

No one was more impactful than Dick Wakefield in the 9-3 New York win over Pittsburgh. Wakefield, who leads the NL in home runs with 5, went 4 for 5 with a home run, a triple, and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs. With the loss, Pittsburgh is 15-9.

Lou Boudreau had a big 2-run double for the Giants in the top of the second inning. With New York leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Mort Cooper, who is a three-time All-Star, and swatted a double to center. "I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Wakefield. "And not try to do too much."
