St. Louis picked up a win at Sportsmans Park, bumping off the Cincinnati Reds, 7-4. Pitcher Fred Hutchinson was a major reason the Cardinals emerged victorious. In 8.1 innings, Hutchinson surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 4. He allowed 4 runs. Herman Besse earned the save for St. Louis, his 4th of the year.

St. Louis second baseman Snuffy Stirnweiss contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a sinker to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 15th hit of the season and put the Cardinals ahead, 6-2.

"I just tried to make good contact," said Stirnweiss.

Cincinnati drops to 12-14.
