Johnny Rigney, who is tied for 7th in the NL in quality starts with 4, had a strong outing for the St. Louis Cardinals against the Cincinnati Reds at Sportsmans Park. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 3-1 win. Bill Voiselle, 2-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 3.1 innings. The win puts St. Louis at 12-12.

Johnny Rucker came through for St. Louis when he hit a run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh. With a runner on 3rd, he hit a two-strike fastball to center field, staking his team to a 2-1 lead.

Rigney told a St. Louis Gazette reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
