Johnson goes 4-for-5, Leads Phillies to Win
|
The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers, 5-3, at Ebbets Field. Leading the charge for Philadelphia was third baseman Billy Johnson. He was 4-5 with a home run, a triple, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Philadelphia pitcher Al Benton earned the win, hiking his record to 3-2. Bob Joyce suffered the loss. Brooklyn, with the loss, is 12-14.
With Philadelphia leading 2-0 in the top of the third, Johnson hit a curveball from Bob Joyce for a 2-run home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Phillies ahead, 4-0.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Johnson, "one at-bat at a time."
