Athletics Fall, 5-2, to Cleveland
|
The Cleveland Guardians picked up a win at Cleveland Stadium, dropping the Philadelphia Athletics, 5-2. Warren Spahn, who is tied for 10th in the AL in complete games with 3, was the difference-maker. Spahn, who is tied for 10th in the AL in complete games with 3, went the distance for Cleveland. He gave up 2 runs on 7 hits. The loss drops Philadelphia to 16-14.
The Athletics had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Guardians going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old left fielder Bob Kennedy came to the plate. Kennedy hit a grand slam home run on a 2-0 curveball from Philadelphia hurler Harry Brecheen. It was Kennedy's 1st home run of the year.
Kennedy was taciturn after the game. "A win's a win," he said.
