New York took on Cincinnati in front of a lively crowd.

The New York Giants topped the Cincinnati Reds, 4-1, in NL action at Polo Grounds. The game was highlighted by the performance of New York pitcher Ed Lopat. The loss makes the Reds 12-18.

Goody Rosen drove in one run for New York. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the sixth inning, Rosen, who is tied for 8th in the NL in doubles with 6, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Cincinnati hurler Bobo Newsom, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Giants a 2-1 lead.

"All in all, I thought Ed pitched a fine game for us tonight," said New York manager Mel Ott.
