Senators Rack Up 3-1 Win Versus Cleveland
|
The Washington Senators downed the Cleveland Guardians, 3-1, at Cleveland Stadium. Stellar pitching by Jesse Flores had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 3rd in the AL with a 2.06 ERA, handcuffed his opponent all game. Flores, who is tied for 5th in the AL in wins with 4, went the distance for Washington. He gave up 1 run on 7 hits. The win takes Washington to 13-16.
Marty Marion, who is tied for 4th in the AL in doubles with 9, had a direct impact on the outcome. Marion contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put Washington up, 3-1.
"Makes our job easier," said Marion, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."
