Down to Defeat Go Giants, 9-4
|
New York shortstop Lou Boudreau was sensational. He was 2-5 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Chicago beat the Giants, 9-4. Red Embree, the winning pitcher, is now 3-1. He went 9 innings, allowing 4 runs on 11 hits, while fanning 0 and walking 4. The defeat makes New York 19-11.
Ray Sanders had a big run-scoring triple for the Cubs in the top of the fifth inning. With Chicago leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Ed Lopat, who leads the NL in quality starts with 6, and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cubs ahead, 2-0.
"You need to show up when your number's called," said Sanders.
