Braves Win at Philadelphia, 7-4
|
A 4-RBI performance from the 23-year old second baseman Red Schoendienst helped the Boston Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-4. The winning pitcher was Ralph Branca. He tossed 131 pitches over 6 innings, allowing 4 runs on 10 hits. Dick Mauney notched his 1st save of the season.
With Boston leading 1-0 in the top of the first, Schoendienst hit a fastball from Steve Gromek for a 2-run double. It was his 2nd double of the season and put the Braves ahead, 3-0.
"Solid performance from our side," said Braves manager Billy Southworth.
The win has Boston at 1-2.
