Reese Excels, Philadelphia Levels Cincinnati
The Philadelphia Phillies cruised to a win over the Cincinnati Reds, 13-1, at Shibe Park. Pee Wee Reese, who is tied for 3rd in the NL in bases on balls with 21, led the way, going 4-for-4 for Philadelphia. Steve Gromek was the winning pitcher. Over 9 innings, he allowed 1 run on 5 hits, with 2 walks and 1 strikeout. The Reds fall to 13-21 and continue their uninspiring start to the 1946 season.

Philadelphia right fielder Marv Rickert contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the first. With two down, he hit a fastball to right-center field for a 2-run single. It was his 11th hit of the season and put the Phillies ahead, 4-0.

"You can't sugarcoat this one," said Cincinnati manager Bill McKechnie. "We got trounced."
