New York Beats Cleveland, 2-1
|
In a tight tilt between the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Guardians, Dutch Leonard was the deciding factor. The New York right-hander spearheaded the 2-1 win. The second-place Yankees sport a record of 19-14.
Leonard had a key at-bat in the top of the sixth to put New York in front, 2-0. With runners on 1st and 3rd, he hit a sacrifice fly off Cleveland pitcher Hal Newhouser.
"Tough loss," said Cleveland manager Louis Farmer. "The kind that burns a little inside."
