Giants Losing Streak at 5 After Extra-Inning Loss to Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates got a hard-earned win over the New York Giants, 6-5, in 10 innings. Vern Stephens provided some offensive muscle for Pittsburgh. He was 2-3 with 2 singles and 2 walks. Charlie Gassaway was called on to finish, recording his 3rd save. Pittsburgh, now 19-15, holds down third place in the NL.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Johnny Wyrostek? The 26-year old center fielder Wyrostek stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put Pittsburgh up, 6-5. For the game, he was 2 for 6, including 1 double and 1 single.
