Ennis Excels, But Cardinals Win
Philadelphia left fielder Del Ennis was sensational. He went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. St. Louis beat the Phillies, 7-6. Bill Voiselle was the winner in relief. His record is now 3-0. The losing pitcher was Joe Berry. St. Louis sits in 5th place in the NL at 18-15.

St. Louis used the timely hitting of Whitey Wietelmann to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Cardinals on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"Nothing is scripted in this game," said Wietelmann.
