Red Sox Collect 6-5 Win Over Athletics
Boston first baseman Phil Cavarretta helped his team beat the Philadelphia Athletics, 6-5. Cavarretta, who is the 1945 Most Valuable Player Award winner, went 4 for 6 for the Red Sox. Boston reliever Tommy Bridges was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Al Hollingsworth. Philadelphia falls to 1-3.

The Red Sox got a clutch hit from center fielder George Binks. In the bottom of the 12th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Red Sox.

"Always feels extra good winning this kind of game," said Binks.
