Phillies Earn 9-8 Win Versus Cardinals
The St. Louis Cardinals could not turn a fine performance from catcher Bill Dickey into a win. Instead, the Philadelphia Phillies prevailed, 9-8, in 11 innings. Dickey was 4 for 4 with 2 home runs, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 and driving in 3. Philadelphia pitcher Joe Berry got the win, upping his record to 2-1. Allie Reynolds got the loss. Philadelphia is now 14-19, St. Louis 18-16.

The Phillies got a clutch hit from center fielder Marv Rickert. In the bottom of the 11th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Phillies.

"Walking a team off at the end -- there's no greater feeling," said Rickert.
