Getting a good performance from center fielder Wally Judnich, the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates, 8-7. Judnich went 3 for 4 with a triple, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Phillies. Reliever Joe Berry picked up the win. His record improves to 3-1. Schoolboy Rowe, who is tied for 6th in the NL in quality starts with 5, took the loss. The setback makes Pittsburgh 19-17.

Max West delivered a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth to win it for the Phillies. For the game, West drove in one run.

"The crowd was juiced," said West.
