Spahn Sends St. Louis Bats to Deep Freeze
|
The St. Louis Browns manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Cleveland Guardians. The Browns were overpowered by Cleveland starter Warren Spahn, who hurled his club to victory, 2-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Luke Sewell said.
Over 9 innings, Spahn blanked St. Louis on 6 hits with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Spahn said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
So far this year, Spahn has made 8 starts, tossed 61.1 innings, struck out 30 batters and walked 22. His record is 3-4 with a 4.84 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .270 batting average.
