Senators Need Extra Frames to Get Past Athletics
The Washington Senators wiggled past the Philadelphia Athletics, 7-6, at Griffith Stadium. The win was highlighted by the performance of Washington pitcher Hank Borowy. Washington reliever Ken Burkhart was the winner. His record is now 3-0. Tex Hughson took the loss. The 6th-place Athletics have lost 6 consecutive games.

The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the tenth. With Washington trailing 6-5, Bobby Doerr hit a slider from Tex Hughson to center for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Senators had a walk-off win.

"Baseball is such a beautiful game," said Doerr. "Anything can happen on any night, and that's why you don't dwell on what happened yesterday. Just look forward and trust you're going to have positive results."
