Senators 2-1 Winners Over Philadelphia
|
Ken Raffensberger pitched a gem to lead Washington to victory over the Philadelphia Athletics, 2-1. Raffensberger, now 2-6, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 10 hits, while striking out 2, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. After today's action, Washington sits at 18-20, while Philadelphia falls to 18-23.
The Athletics had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Senators going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 29-year old center fielder Carden Gillenwater came to the plate. Gillenwater hit a 2-run home run on a full count fastball from Philadelphia hurler Harry Brecheen. It was Gillenwater's 2nd home run of the year.
"Nice to tuck this win away," said Gillenwater.
