The Chicago Cubs topped the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 6-5. Leading the way was pinch hitter Chuck Workman. Workman went 1 for 1 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Cubs. Joe Page earned the save for Chicago. The win gives Chicago a season record of 23-16.

The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Oscar Judd came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Pittsburgh pitcher Schoolboy Rowe, he hit a 1-0 knuckle curve for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Chicago on top, 6-5.

"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Cubs manager Charlie Grimm.
