Washington Stopped, 5-1, by New York
|
The New York Yankees got a stellar performance from pitcher Bob Kuzava, who handcuffed the Washington offense en route to a win, 5-1, at Yankee Stadium. Kuzava, now 4-3, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 1, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. New York raised its record to 25-17 with the win.
New York second baseman Mickey Witek contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two down, he hit a slider to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 50th hit of the season and put the Yankees ahead, 1-0.
"We just try to have good at-bats, whether we're winning, losing, or tied," said Witek.
