Red Sox Pull Out Late Win, 9-8
|
Don Ross did all he could to help his team prevail. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Philadelphia Athletics from losing the game, 9-8, to the Boston Red Sox in 11 innings at Fenway Park. Ross was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Boston pitcher Randy Gumpert got the win, upping his record to 1-0. Russ Bauers got the loss. Philadelphia is now 2-4.
Boston got a clutch hit from Terry Moore. The center fielder launched a solo home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a kill shot.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Moore told the Boston Daily.
