Tigers Handed 6-3 Loss by Washington
|
Washington beat Detroit on the strength of starting pitcher Jesse Flores's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 6-3. In 9 innings, Flores surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2. He allowed 3 runs. The defeat makes Detroit 28-18.
Bobby Doerr had a big run-scoring triple for the Senators in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Washington leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Dave Ferriss and swatted a triple to center. It was his 4th triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Senators ahead, 2-0.
"Jesse is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Washington manager Ossie Bluege.
