Giants Defeat Cardinals, 4-3
|
New York Giants starter Fred Martin was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-3, in 10 innings. New York reliever Nick Strincevich picked up the win, while Bill Voiselle took the loss for St. Louis. With the win, New York raised its record to 24-23.
New York used the timely hitting of Goody Rosen to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Giants on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"What a great win for our team," said a jubilant Mel Ott, the New York manager.
