Cincinnati Beats Brooklyn, 6-1
|
The Cincinnati Reds picked up a win at Crosley Field, topping the Brooklyn Dodgers, 6-1. On the mound for Cincinnati was right-hander Red Barrett. He played a principal role in the triumph. Barrett, now 2-3, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 3, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Cincinnati now sits at 19-29, while Brooklyn falls to 26-21.
Guy Curtright had a big run-scoring double for the Reds in the bottom of the second inning. With Cincinnati leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a changeup from Monte Kennedy, who is the 5th-best prospect in the Dodgers organization, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 8th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Reds ahead, 2-0.
Said losing manager Leo Durocher: "Give the Reds credit. They played a better game than we did."
