Lopat yielded 2 runs over 9.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 9 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. His record improves to 9-2. New York now has a record of 25-24 with the win.
Dick Wakefield, who is tied for 2nd in the NL in triples with 5, had a direct impact on the outcome. Wakefield contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the tenth inning to put New York up, 3-2.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said St. Louis manager Eddie Dyer.
