Dodgers Pick Up 7-3 Win Against Philadelphia
|
Behind a solid performance from first baseman Bert Haas, the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-3. Haas was 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Dodgers. Monte Kennedy picked up the win, improving his season record to 1-0. He struck out 1 in 6 innings. Russ Christopher closed out the game, earning his 1st save.
Brooklyn used a well-timed hit by Pete Reiser to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Dodgers ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"We take it day by day here," said Haas, "and today was a good one for us."
The win puts Brooklyn at 4-4.
