Reds Pull Out Late-Game Win, 7-6
The Cincinnati Reds downed the Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-6, at Crosley Field. The Reds were led by Elmer Valo. Valo went 4-5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs. The winner in relief was Don Grate. He is now 1-0. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. Pittsburgh is 10-3 after the defeat.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Cincinnati center fielder Guy Curtright, facing Charlie Gassaway, had a run-scoring ground out. It gave the Reds the 7-6 win.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Curtright told the Cincinnati News. "It's as simple as that."
