Overmire Spins 5-0 Shutout Against Boston
Wednesday, April 24th , 1946
In a seemingly effortless performance, Stubby Overmire of the New York Yankees shot down the Boston Red Sox, 5-0, on 6 hits.
"Stubby was just locating so well and using his pitches," New York manager Joe McCarthy said later. "He wasn't leaving anything over the plate."
Overmire recorded 3 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing.
"When he needed to make pitches, he elevated his game," Boston manager Joe Cronin said in postgame comments to BNN. "We couldn't get a key hit off him."
