Behind Newhouser, Cleveland Blanks New York, 5-0
Wednesday, May 1st , 1946
Cleveland Guardians starter Hal Newhouser really did a number on the New York Yankees, shutting them out, 5-0, on 3 hits in a complete game victory. He issued 2 walks and had 7 strikeouts.
"We didn't have good at-bats," said New York manager Joe McCarthy. "I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting and seeing as our team has a bunch of good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Newhouser."
