Blackwell Blanks Chicago, 1-0
Sunday, May 5th , 1946
Goose eggs were the order of the day for the Chicago Cubs as starter Ewell Blackwell shut them out, 1-0, at Wrigley Field. The Philadelphia pitcher struck out 8 and walked 2 while allowing 3 hits.
"Blackwell was good but he wasn't flawless," Chicago manager Charlie Grimm said. "We had a few opportunities to make something happen and we didn't do it. Not to take anything away from Philadelphia, but this is on us."
On the year, Blackwell has compiled a 4-2 mark with a 3.62 ERA.
