Roe Spins 12-0 Shutout Against Boston
Thursday, May 9th , 1946
The Boston Braves manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Chicago Cubs. The Braves were overpowered by Chicago starter Preacher Roe, who hurled his club to victory, 12-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Billy Southworth said.
Over 9 innings, Roe blanked Boston on 3 hits with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Roe said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
On the year, Roe has compiled a 3-2 mark with a 2.95 ERA.
