Bevens Too Tough, Blanks Pittsburgh
Friday, May 10th , 1946
In a seemingly effortless performance, Bill Bevens of the Chicago Cubs shot down the Pittsburgh Pirates, 2-0, on 4 hits.
"Bill was just locating so well and using his pitches," Chicago manager Charlie Grimm said later. "He wasn't leaving anything over the plate."
Bevens recorded 5 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing.
"When he needed to make pitches, he elevated his game," Pittsburgh manager Frankie Frisch said in postgame comments to BNN. "We couldn't get a key hit off him."
To date, Bevens has a 3-3 mark in 7 starts with a 2.14 ERA. He has given up 45 hits in 59 innings, struck out 30 and issued 20 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .211 batting average against him.
